Reviews of Running Silently from some of our wonderful readers!

By Marjorie

(excerpt) Although dogs and their stories are central to this book, you are also introduced to a world of people, who often touch your heart with their generosity and good will. You meet relatives, friends, neighbors, breeders, mushers and veterinarians, a large and interesting community surrounding these dogs and the sport of skijoring. Yes, there is sadness. Gary does pass on, as you know from the outset. It is his voice, characterized by gentle humor, that you encounter in the first portion of the book. When Betsy takes up the story, using Gary’s detailed notes and her own experiences, she transitions gracefully from her remaining days with Gary to the years ahead with her furry family.

(excerpt) Animals are great at helping us see the truth of our folly. Sometimes, we find ourselves on bumpy terrain, utterly humbled, and at others moving way too fast and out of control. And yet, undergirding the whole of the journey is solid ground. I felt gratitude that Betsy shared her brave re-entry into the world of camping and canoeing…without Gary. As I read Betsy’s part of the story, I knew that a weight began to lift, that shafts of light were breaking through. I was reminded that even with death, significant threads of love remain, that even through tears life dances below and above the surface of the natural world saying, “Come, there’s still so much more.”

(excerpt) This beautifully written book pays homage to the sweet experience of sharing your life with a beloved pet, or pets. It also gently teaches the "law of sacrifice" and gives the insight that In the kingdom of nature, nothing is taken away without something being given in return.

Betsy asked me to read her book before it was published and I can tell you that not only did her writings and those of her late husband, move me to tears, they also redeemed my spirit.

Reviews of Mercury & Sirius from some of our wonderful readers!

By Julie

(excerpt) What a sweet book with beautiful photos of Mercury and Sirius!

I've followed Sirius and Mercury since Mercury, the mini horse was born at Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses in Florida. The photos of them on Face Book showed their growing friendship. I love the message of the book that even though we are different we can still be friends. Thank you Debbie for putting the photos together with your story.

(excerpt) This is a story about two friends who, despite their differences, realize that what's important is how they are alike. This miniature therapy horse-in-training and best friend/Maremma livestock guardian dog are beautiful animals. It's a true story, well-written with heart-touching pictures of the two of them together. Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses is a great non-profit that visits children in hospitals, people in hospice care, people who have experienced trauma, has a reading program and brightens every corner they visit. People of all ages will enjoy reading this book, but has such valuable lessons on friendship for children. Kudos to the author !

(excerpt) A true friendship between a miniature horse and a Maremma guardian dog at Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses. This heartwarming book highlights an unlikely friendship and shows children that, like Sirius the dog and Mercury the miniature horse, you may have many differences, but still find just as many ways you're alike. With Debbie Garcia-Bengochea's honest text and fanciful illustrations, this book is sure to delight children...and animal lovers of all ages. I love it!
